In Their Own Tongue

Imagine you live in a remote village in Nepal. You have been raised with the superstitions and idolatry of your forefathers, but these mean very little to you except when sacrifices are offered or feasts are observed. The hundreds of gods that the people around you worship offer no help to ease your desire to know what life is all about. Your family was too poor to buy you shoes so you couldn't go to school. You cannot read or write. Running water or electricity are not even heard of in your village. The whole village notices as an evangelist speaking through an interpreter calls the people together to offer them a gift. The village is uneasy as the man winds this odd device and words come out of seemingly nowhere. The people listen with such great attention you could hear a pin drop. Through this one hand wind tape recorder, the whole village hears the truth of the Gospel for the first time, and many accept Jesus as their Lord.

Not only is this an effective ministry tool it is something that draws attention because of its odd nature. Many of these villages have never seen a tape recorder and just for the sake of curiosity listen to the whole gospel and the Holy Spirit draws them to a relationship with the Living God.

Over the past 14 years, Vision Beyond Borders has delivered over 10,000 hand wind tape players around the world to help reach remote villages with the Gospel. Since these players are hand wound and do not need batteries or electricity, they are especially useful in villages where people are illiterate.

We purchase them wholesale for $16 each and are currently in need of 8,000-10,000 additional players for use in Nepal, East India, Vietnam, Laos, and Burma.

One report that we heard was that over 1,500 people had come to Christ through 16 hand wind tape players in central Nepal.

We have seen firsthand a tape player being used in a village and the whole village turning out to hear the machine that talked in their language. The tape contained songs of praise and the Gospel message.

These players are used in conjunction with evangelistic cassette tapes in different languages. There have been reports of whole villages becoming Christians from one player. They have since been nicknamed the "mini evangelist!" and can go places that foreign missionaries are not allowed.

Vision Beyond Borders has partnered with Global Recordings to bring the Gospel on tape to many people who have never heard of Jesus Christ and His gift of salvation in their native language.
